A traditional, family-owned pub located just outside of central Basingstoke, The Soldiers Return is a welcome escape from the cookie-cutter brands dominating pubs and restaurants in Basingstoke’s town centre. Not being tied to a brewer or owned by a chain means being able to select the best beers, wines and fresh produce, ensuring great food and drink at a fair price.

The Soldiers Return has been a Basingstoke institution for many years, however a decline in trade led to then-owners The Wellington Pub Group to close up in 2011 and seek planning permission to develop the land for housing. Planning denied, the vacant pub stood empty for 2 years before Duncan Carter, along with his partner and her parents; Sam, Sally and Kevin Dinham, persuaded The Wellington Pub Group to offer a 25-year lease on the property and allow them to restore the pub to its former glory.

Dedicated to the idea of a traditional pub being the centre of a community, The Soldiers Return offers a welcoming atmosphere to all, with three rooms and two bars providing a home to a range of Clubs and providing a venue, as well as catering for, numerous Events. At the front of the pub is the adults-only lounge bar, opening up to a patio area overlooking the Sherborne Playing Field, while at the rear is a spacious and family friendly sports bar housing a pool table, darts board and jukebox/gaming machines. Leading through from the sports bar is a dining area allowing you a quieter space in which to enjoy a meal from the Menu, and the dining area opens out to the back patio and attractive beer garden. Free Wifi is available throughout the pub, as well as Sky Sports on numerous flatscreens, and plenty of parking is available in both the attached car park and at Sherborne Playing Fields opposite.
